Rob Mapps R.I.P.

We recently received the terrible news that one of our own within the race/car community passed away the night before Thanksgiving. This is a time where so many people are gathering around with family and giving thanks for the things that make them happy. To hear the news of Robert Mapps passing due to a motorcycle accident has truly been tough. We send our deepest condolences to his friends, family and anyone who appreciates who Rob was. Rob was a family man, hard worker, dedicated and also a fierce competitor within the sport of drag racing. Definitely one of the fiercest competitors. When he showed up to race, he was not afraid of anything or  anyone. No matter who it was, he was there to compete.

We followed Rob from the streets of NYC where he street raced all the way to the track. He lived and breathed racing. There are so many stories to be told about Rob. Many that his friends and family will be able to share. We had the opportunity to document some of his racing over probably about 10 years. We always respected him when he hopped in a car because we knew that he was going to bring his A game. He genuinely had a true love for the sport of drag racing. He has built so many cars and helped so many others achieve their goals of racing and going fast. A lot of people gained an incredible amount of knowledge from him. He was a great teacher who was always willing to share the things that he had learned.

To see him transition from the streets to the track was nothing short of incredible. Rob was known for driving some of the fastest Hondas we had seen on the street. Then he started racing at the track where we’d see him go into the 9’s and then the 8’s. Whether it was an all motor car or a turbo car, Rob drove it how it was supposed to be driven. Recently, just a few weeks ago he became the first K-Series FWD car to break into the 7’s. He ran 7’s at one of the biggest events of the year, the World Cup Finals at Maryland International Raceway. Now some weeks later he is no longer with us due to a tragic accident.

Rob truly cared about his family. He leaves behind his wife, there 3 kids along with scores of family and friends who loved him. He showed so much love towards his family and that is one of the qualities that we all appreciated. We are definitely hurt by his passing and untimely death. It really shows that life is very short. Rob we miss you and will continue to remember you. Race after race, event after event. You will always be with us when we step onto that quarter mile.

Below we have listed a few photos and videos from different sources who covered Rob Mapps over the years. There is an assortment of both street and track related vids. Take the time to check them out and understand how much of an impact Rob Mapps made within our industry. Race In Peace Rob….

Here are a few videos of Rob Mapps in action.

Thank you Rob for all of your dedication to the sport of drag racing and the car community in general. Your memory will continue to live on with us. Over And Out...
